Keeping your company safe requires more than simply ensuring your building is in good repair. It’s essential that you keep your data safe by enforcing important rules to ensure your data is protected and encrypted when necessary. Using multi-factor authentication is one of the best ways to take your security to the next level. Coupled with strong passwords, multi-factor authentication is effective in deterring most hackers.

Basically, multi-factor authentication usually involves an app that users download on their phones. In addition to inputting a password to log-in to a certain site, the authentication process also requires that the individual confirm their attempt to access the site via another device—usually their phone. With this multi-step process, it is much harder to fake another’s identity when trying to access confidential information.

Enforce Strong Passwords

In addition to using multi-factor authentication, make sure that you and your employees understand the why behind passwords and that they understand what makes a password strong. Most people have been forced to make a password where a variety of different characters are required—for example, a password may be required to have a capital letter, a number, and a symbol.

But in addition to meeting these requirements, help employees understand the importance of using randomly generated words and numbers in passwords. Using words and numbers that relate to one’s life are much easier for someone to hack.

Keeping your company’s data safe requires a lot of awareness on your part. Be aware of how things are changing. Be aware of your employees’ different habits as they relate to safety in order to make sure you are keeping your data protected.
