Wende Mitchell was born in Virginia in 1985. She earned degrees from Moorpark Community College, CalPoly San Luis Obispo, and Hofstra University School of Law.
She has always loved books and reading. When she was younger, her parents could entice her to behave by offering to let her read at the dinner table. Her love of reading led her to learn about the experience of immigrants in the United States, which drew her to law school in New York. Working in the Political Asylum Clinic introduced her to wonderful people who forever changed her worldview, and inspired her to write.
Wende works as an attorney serving the immigrant community on Long Island. She specializes in family petitions and hardship waivers, and loves getting to hear her clients’ stories, and help them bring their families together. She also teaches civics classes for people who are studying to take the U.S. citizenship test, and is constantly humbled by her students’ enthusiasm and pride at being able to become U.S. citizens.
Wende lives in New York with her husband.
